  • Ilocos Norte Promotes Mangrove Planting

    Embarking on a province wide planting of mangrove propagules along the coastline of Ilocos Norte, the provincial government’s environment and natural resources office (ENRO) is currently distributing saplings of mangroves as part of strengthening resiliency of local residents in times of natural calamities.

    Taking cue from the previous experiences of Tacloban and Leyte residents as among the areas hardest-hit by supertyphoon Yolanda, Governor Imee Marcos said mangroves serve as natural barrier and protection of coastal residents against storm surge and heavy typhoon.

  • Solar Power Plant Eyed In Ilocos Norte

    Following the installation of additional 21 wind turbines in this windy town of Ilocos Norte, the Energy Development Corp. (EDC), the geothermal power company of the Lopez Group, is again exploring the possibility of setting up a solar project here.

    Town Mayor Cresente Garcia of Burgos, Ilocos Norte said on Monday a public hearing was recently conducted among concerned stakeholders for the proposed solar power project in the sunny village of Saoit.

  • Ilocos Norte To Help Ease Power Woes

    Energy executives in the province are hopeful that the power produced from renewable energy facilities in Ilocos Norte would fill in the power shortage that is expected to occur in summer next year.

    Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) Board President Rey Lazo said solar and wind farms which will be fully operational this year is the probable alternative sources of power supply.

    “Whatever energy outputs from these renewable energy plants will help supply a part of the projected power shortage problem next year,” Lazo said.
