Currimao Beach and Rock Formations

Currimao, Ilocos Norte

Southwest of Batac are the towns of Currimao and Badoc. Currimao is known for its rock formations (which pretty much looked like dried up coral beds that stretch along most of its coastline fronting the South China Sea and the spectacular sunsets at Pangil. Among the rock formations, there are little lagoons which are nice for swimming.

    Chasing Sunset In Currimao Beach

One of the coastal towns of Ilocos Norte is a small and quiet municipality of Currimao. You'll definitely come across that town if taking an alternative route going to Paoay or Laoag. It's always been our path of choice since the day it was recommended by one of my friends. Aside from peaceful and smooth roads, motorists seldom passing there.

From the highway going to the town proper, lots of resorts are already lined up. To see what they offer (less entrance fees, hehe), we passed through a compound which leads to the beach.

Fishing is the common livelihood of the locals there, and the ...

The Defenses Of Ilocos Nortes Currimao

Ever since I was a kid, Currimao in Ilocos Norte has always had a special place in my heart. It has decent packets of beaches very close to where I live, making it an easy weekend getaway.

Pangil, one of its barangays, offers what I would describe as the site of the most romantic sunset one can witness in the north thanks to its dramatic rocky landscape. It's very easy to fall in love with it. Aside from this, however, I did not know anything else about this small, sleepy town by the sea.

    Well, until recently.

    Wow Currimao

I sat on the hull of the solitary banca that was docked on the shore. My toes were flirting with the gentle ripples of the sea curling up in the warm sand. Wafting the soft easterly winds on my face, the horizon's drama started to unfold. He held on tight to his might and battled with his enduring strength.

They chased each other behind the clouds leaving trails of bleeding reds and weakening blues. She unleashed her ultimate vigor and spewed the golden fire. Finally, he succumbed into his greatest defeat. Slowly, she blanketed the universe with her blazing victory. Darkness started to cre ...

    Currimao Coral Rock Formations

The Memet and I were foolishly trying to get to Laoag (from Vigan) by using the map in our SUV's GPS system. We didn't even think to put in our destination's coordinates. So as expected, we got lost because we took a wrong turn somewhere.

But this was one pleasant wrong turn.

We didn't realize it then, but we came across Currimao's Coral Rock Formations. To be honest, I always thought that 'currimao' was a term that some people used to refer jokingly to other people. Am not entirely sure of what the street slang means though. Hihi.

So anyway, we continued to drive through the availabl ...

    Shooting Rocks at Currimao

We woke up to the loud patter of rain, Vigan City was drowning. And before everything swam to the ocean, we escaped the torrential rain enveloping the city. Trying to outrun dark clouds, we headed north again, this time to the coastal town of Currimao in Ilocos Norte.

The heavens still have tinge of blues as our van drove up to a lone hotel fronting the sea. The morning air was crisp with dew as we went further up the road, looking for a place to turn. -

A cacophony of bright reds, blues and yellows greeted us as our van u-turned on a vacant lot. The brown sandy shoreline was littered w ...

    Currimao Rock Formation

An off road track but still in our itinerary, this was one of our early stops before driving back to Manila. We almost missed this point if we haven't attempted going to one of their ports in which we found nothing. To save face we just simply asked where Currimao is and they pointed us on the beach on the horizon.

Since it was the beach, it is a bit far from the National Highway. Our map does not show where it is exactly (just a huge dot) that we still have to ask around for directions. Although advertised, it's not that yet developed for tourists. There were no signages except for the act ...
