The Magat River is a river in the Philippine island of Luzon. It is the largest tributary of Cagayan River, the longest and largest river system in the country, with an estimated drainage area of 5, 110 square km, roughly twenty percent of the total drainage area of the river.

the 1960s, is one of the Philippine's largest irrigation projects with hydroelectric power generation capacity. Its total cost amounted to US$500 million.
The project is made up of the Magat reservoir, three diversion dams, a large number of irrigation canals and three pumping stations to supply irrigation water for an area of about 97,400 hectares. It is also includes hydroelectric power plants; 360 MW at Magat reservoir, 6,000 kW at Baligatan and 2,500 kW Magat mini-hydroelectric power pants in Maris main canal.

It was one of those national landmarks in the country most people are familiar with. Having grown up reading about it on text books, Magat Dam is known one of the largest dams in the country. The water is mainly used for irrigation, flood control and electric source through the Magat Hydroelectric Power Plant. Protect Remaining Forests Says CPA
Cordillera People's Alliance (CPA), an alliance of indigenous people's organizations called for the protection and preservation of the remaining forests of the region and urged voters to choose candidates who are serious at defending the remaining forests from destruction.

Isabela town to plant 12 M bamboo and tree seedlings along river banks
The local government here is set to plant two million bamboos and tree seedlings along the stretch of the Magat River banks here up to Cabatuan and Reina Mercedes areas.
Mayor Jaime Atayde said the massive planting of bamboos and tree seedlings, in partnership with the various government agencies and environment stakeholders, is in support of the government's National Greening Program (NGP).

Magat Dam water level above normal
Heavy downpour over the watershed and upstream parts of Magat Dam has raised water level to above normal, the National Irrigation Administration-Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MRIIS) said the other day.
The dam's water level as of 7 p.m. Wednesday was at 185.78 meters, or 10.78 meters more than the normal level of 175 meters, Wilfredo Gloria, acting operations manager of NIA-MRIIS, said.

For the majority of farmers in the municipality of Roxas, Isabela, water to irrigate their lands has always been the decisive factor as to whether they earned or not.
