Newly Paced Dinagat Road Seen To Boost Agri Tourism
The newly improved 11-kilometer Dinagat-Loreto road in the Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI) is expected to boost tourism and agriculture in the "Mystical Island Province of Love."
According to officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Tourism (DOT), the road, improved at a cost of P425 million, would facilitate the transportation of produce from farm to the market, and will benefit farmers and rural businessmen.

Dinagat Islands is the 81st and the newest created province of the Philippines. It is located on the southern side of Leyte Gulf. It is bounded on the east by the Philippine Sea, on the south by Gaboc Channel and Nonoc Island; and on the west by Surigao Strait. Its main island, Dinagat, is about 60 km from north to south. Proclamation of Dinagat conservation areas pushed
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), with the support of the provincial government, is pushing for the implementation of the proposed Dinagat Islands Conservation Areas (DICA).
DICA includes watershed areas, forest reserve, bonsai forest, caves in karst areas, beaches, coves, as well as islands and islets which have the potential for ecotourism development. These cover a total area of 114,892.32 hectares of which 19,198.5 hectares are terrestrial and 95,694 hectares are marine areas.

Six year World Bank funded biodiversity project commences
Key biodiversity areas (KBAs) in the Caraga (Northeastern Mindanao) Region have started implementing a US$17-million biodiversity conservation project funded by the World Bank (WB).

Dinagat Islands is an island province that was formerly part of Surigao del Norte Province. It is a newly-created province. Last March 2011, the island completed its requirements as a separate province. It is dubbed as a "Mystical Island Province of Love".
