Stop forcible entry of mining firms
A tribal group leader is pressing on the government to stop coercing the indigenous people (IP) of San Luis, Agusan del Sur to sign the document that would pave the way for the entry of mining companies, which he said could destroy not just the environment but the culture of the lumad communities.
Rogelio Plana, secretary-general of the lumad group Kalumbay, said Friday the Banwaon tribe members living in hinterland areas in San Luis are being pressured to sign the Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT).

On 6 December 2013, the family of the human rights defender, Mr Rolen Langala, lodged a complaint to the office of Fiscal in Opol town, urging them to investigate the killing of the defender, who was stabbed multiple times and shot twice in the head on 1 December 2013.

The Philippine Task Force for Indigenous Peoples Rights condemns the brutal murder of Mr. Genesis Ambason. Genesis was a young indigenous leader who took the responsibility of leading his fellow Lumad in the assertion of their rights to ancestral land and self determination.
