Bahay Tisa or Cuenca Ancestral House
Bacoor City, Cavite
Situated in Bacoor is what people termed as the First Malacañang Palace. This is the residence of Juanito and Candida Cuenca, popularly known as Bahay na Tisa.
Tisa is a roofing material made of baked clay and is a typically used for roofing a house of rich people in the ancient times. The Cuenca's house was dubbed as the first Malacañang because it was where Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo ...
stayed for three months before his office was transferred to Malolos.
Everything that happened in Bahay na Tisa and in Bacoor in general was believed to have contributed to the events that transpired in the Malolos Convention.
Another significant event that took place in Bahay na Tisa is the drafting of the Philippine Constitution which Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo did with Apolinario Mabini.
Bahay na Tisa is among the historical attractions of the Province of Cavite. This is considered a treasure of the town of Bacoor alongside San Miguel Arcangel Parish Church where one of the GOMBURZA martyrs, Fr. Mariano Gomes, served for 48 years.
But if you think of the Bahay na Tisa as an open museum like other ancestral houses in the Philippines, no, not just yet. The house is occupied by the scions of the Cuencas. So if you want to take pictures of the house, you can only take photos of the exterior unless you have the permission of the current owner.
