The Upper Pulangi Watershed is the second largest watershed in the Philippines, covering an area of around 1.8 Million hectares. It has ten catchments and covers the cities and municipalities of Impasugong, Cabanglasan, San Fernando, Lantapan, Maramag, Quezon, Valencia City, and Malaybalay City.

The Pulangi Watershed is home to endangered species, such as the Philippine eagle and a number of endemic and threatened wildlife and plant species like deer, wild pigs, hornbills, tarsiers, owls, freshwater eels, dipterocarps, pitcher plant, ferns, and wild abaca.
It is also home to the Higaonons, Pulangiyens, and Bukidnons, indigenous peoples of Mindanao. Upper Pulangi is also a place where some of the remaining forest blocks in Mindanao stand, the Mt. Tago Range and Pulangi River.

Upper Pulangi Youth Bringing Back The Forests A Flight For Forests Update
In the mountains of Mindanao, Philippines, the forests are still being lost. But in the small community of Bendum in Bukidnon, the forest has been maintained over the last 20 years through a youth program with the Pulangiyen indigenous community.
Not only are these youth seeking to stop illegal logging, they are also actively extending the forest cover. Extending the forest will help minimize soil erosion as well as rehabilitate a stretch of stream for a better water source through activities that assist the natural regeneration of forest.

200 Higaonons Reconnect For Protection Of Sacred Site
Nearly 200 tribal leaders of the Higaonon tribe from eight tulugans (tribal halls) in four provinces have gathered at Barangay Kalabugao in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon to reestablish ties, assert their cultural identity and to protect their sacred site.
The tribal leaders, who came from Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental, gathered in the village from November 25 to 28 primarily to revive the protection of their sacred ground called "Pigtabidan," which is considered "the safe keeper of the tribe's history and its customary laws."

Assisting Forests The Pulangiyen Approach in Bendum
The Pulangiyen community in Bendum is sustaining its forests back through a mixture of activities that relate to their basic needs for water and for livelihood. There are around 12 hectares under various forms of utilization that assist the natural regeneration of forests.
