Rare Wetland Bird Spotted In Ilocos Norte
Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus), a bird rarely seen in the Philippines, was identified last June 2 in Saud, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte by volunteers from the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP) taking part in a bird-migration research. This is the first time that this bird species was photographed in mainland Luzon.
Birdwatchers who followed last June 9 also reconfirmed the ibis sighting with photos; with added report of possibly a second juvenile or adult bird in non-breeding plumage. The few previous observations of Glossy Ibis in Luzon are limited to between September and November, ... -
Upper Pulangi Youth Bringing Back The Forests A Flight For Forests Update
In the mountains of Mindanao, Philippines, the forests are still being lost. But in the small community of Bendum in Bukidnon, the forest has been maintained over the last 20 years through a youth program with the Pulangiyen indigenous community.
Not only are these youth seeking to stop illegal logging, they are also actively extending the forest cover. Extending the forest will help minimize soil erosion as well as rehabilitate a stretch of stream for a better water source through activities that assist the natural regeneration of forest.

Checkpoints Vs Illegal Logging In Central Mindanao Planned
Leonisa C. Alfaro, protected area superintendent of Allah Valley Protected Landscape, proposed to the protected areas board on Thursday the establishment of a checkpoint initially in Barangay New Dumangas in the town of T'boli.
She noted that last year, her team apprehended a total of 21,377 board feet of logs and lumber. This raises concern considering it is a huge increase from the 12,362 board feet intercepted in 2012.

Assisting Forests The Pulangiyen Approach in Bendum
The Pulangiyen community in Bendum is sustaining its forests back through a mixture of activities that relate to their basic needs for water and for livelihood. There are around 12 hectares under various forms of utilization that assist the natural regeneration of forests.
The approach may not be comprehensive and can be viewed as patchy, as there are different reasons for different areas of regeneration.
