Itbayat, Batanes

Diogo Island is an uninhabited volcanic island in Itbayat, Batanes. Also known as Dinem Island in the native language, Diogo is a lone rock rising out of the sea, with steep cliffs on every side, and dangerous currents make landing there practically impossible. It is an extinct volcano which has suffered heavily from marine erosion.

    The view of the Pacific Ocean,the deep jagged cliffs from the island where i'm standing and Dinem Island,cutting through the ocean like a knife's edge was stupendous.here at the farthest inhabitable,northern island of Itbayat,i'm just lost for words on how i can describe the beauty i'm seeing from Torongan Hills.If i had my way,i can spend an idle afternoon here just looking at the sea and Passing clouds.It was one of those moments that's I'm so proud of the philippines for having places like this.

    In October 2009, I was invited by the Batanes Mountaineers to do an exploration of Dinem (Di'nem) Island in Itbayat, the northermost municipality of the Philippines. This island is a prominent feature in the open seas of the Luzon Strait, and can be seen as a giant rock jutting out of the northern view from Batan island - and most tourists would have seen it from the "Marlboro Country" or elsewhere. Ever since I saw this strange mountain-island in 2008, I really wanted to visit it, so I gladly accepted the invitation. This itinerary is a product of that exploration.
