Abayan Festival is celebrated every last Saturday of July in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte. This is a riverside festivity in honor of St. Anne, Patroness of Agusan River. Highlighted by Baroto Races and indigenous games for men, women and children, capped by a Fluvial Parade.

  • Celebrating With The Waves Of The Mighty Agusan River

    Every year, Butuan City is reminded of the importance of the Agusan River and its historical influence and how it has sculpted its vast landscape stretching from the province of Agusan del Sur toward Agusan del Norte into the mouth of Butuan Bay, in a religious event called the "Abayan Festival."

    Since the late 1880s, the Abayan is an annual festive ritual of prayer culminating in a fluvial procession along the Agusan River in honor to the rivers patron Santa Ana, which is usually held in the month of July.

  • Butuanons Enjoy Abayan Festival Activities

    In line with this year's celebration of the 66th 'Adlaw Hong Butuan' (Butuan City charter day), Butuanons also celebrated the Abayan Festival on Sunday with a thanksgiving mass, fluvial parade, cultural cheer dance competition, and Baoto Race.

    Government employees, together with local officials, private individuals, students, and media gathered early morning on Sunday at the Phil. Ports Authority (PPA) grounds here and actively participated in the lined-up activities for the said festival.

  • Butuan Marks 66th Charter Day

    The 66th Adlaw Hong Butuan started yesterday here with the staging of the "Abayan Festival 2016" at the Butuan City Wharf grounds.

    The event signaled the start of festivities to mark the anniversary of the birth of Butuan as a chartered city on August 2.

    The "Abayan Festival 2016" was spearheaded by Butuan City Mayor Ronnie Vicente C. Lagnada and Agusan del Norte First District Rep. Laurence Lemuel H. Fortun.

    CMO-PIO (July 29, 2013): The week-long celebration of the 63rd Adlaw Hong Butuan officially opened with the Abayan Festival at the PPA Grounds, July 28, 2013. The Abayan Festival is an annual tradition celebrated by the Butuanons in honor of St. Anne. The festival is part of the yearly Adlaw Hong Butuan Celebration and is spearheaded by the Butuan City Government.

    Held every last sunday of July at PPA grounds, honoring patroness of Agusan River, St. Anne. This year, aside from the traditional baroto race in different category, Transpolympics was introduced to encouraged the transport sector in participating sport events.
