Lake Pinatubo is the summit crater lake of Mount Pinatubo formed after its climactic eruption on June 15, 1991. The lake is located near the boundaries of Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales provinces in the Philippines and is the deepest lake in the country at 600m. It is about 90 km northwest of the capital city of Manila.
The lake is described as "a wide jewel of blue and green" and is ...
now a popular bush walking destination, mostly frequented by mountaineers and adventure-seekers. Until a few years ago, a trip to the summit involved either days of hiking or hours of 4-wheel vehicle travel followed by a 2-hour hard hike.
Eventually, a trail called the Skyway was made that allows 4 wheel drive vehicles a shorter route to a drop off point to trek to the crater. The skyway shortened the route to a 1.4-hour ride and a 45-minute to an hour's trek. The best time to visit the lake is during the dry season, from November to May. Wiki

One of the more scenic trips you can do when in the Philippines is doing a hiking trip to one of the volcanoes. There are 37 volcanoes around the country, of which 18 are still active. In Luzon, there are several volcanoes which you can visit for a day trip away from Manila, and Mount Pinatubo, located only 100km NW of Manila, has always been one of my favorites. Mt. Pinatubo is one of the most picturesque volcanoes I've visited with the crater lake having turquoise waters. Although it is quite tempting to take the plunge, swimming at the crater is prohibited because of no standby lifeguard in ...
I guess some things are destructive yet beautiful.
If you happen to ask me, Are you up to a 4×4 experience, I wouldn't think twice and say YES, but after that one hour grueling experience in Mt Pinatubo, I'll just gladly response to you, "No, thanks, been there done that."
I'm not complaining here, with that view, I'm totally speechless.
One couldn't ask for more, that 7kms walk in the open and the strong sun hit you by mid day. It's totally worth a hike!

June 15th, 1991: The World's second-largest, recorded, volcanic eruption of the 20th & 21st century, Mount Pinatubo; a blast so violent and catastrophic that nearly 260 meters of its summit blew off and crumbled to pieces giving life to a serene crater lake in its place. Out of so much destruction and chaos was born something of pure beauty and life, but not without a cost, a global cost. Oceanic temperatures dropped by one-degree Celsius worldwide and thousands upon thousands of tons of volcanic ash hurled itself into the atmosphere, changing weather patterns around the globe.
