Panam Pangan Island White Beach, also called Panampangan Beach, is actually part of the Municipality of Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi. Some also call this the "virgin beach" because only a few go here.
Panam Pangan Island and Beach News
One of the things that excites me when traveling in our tropical country is sandbars. What more when we were heading to the longest sandbar in the whole Philippines no less? Here in this blog post I present Panampangan Island where the longest sandbar in the Philippines is located!
How to get to Tawi-Tawi:
- Take a plane from Metro Manila to Zamboanga City (i.e. Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific).
- Fly via Cebu Pacific from Zamboanga City to Bongao Airport, Tawi-Tawi.
- Alternatively, you may ride the ferry from Zamboanga Port bound for Bongao (travel time: 16 - 18 hours depending on sea condition).
Everyone was silent as our speedboat sloshes through the calm waters of Celebes Sea. Under the brightness of a full sun, we were cruising with golden skin over a body of water ? once known as the most dangerous backwater in the world. What used to be a violent playground of pirate ships committing sea robbery and during the worst of times; the sailing route of Abu Sayyaf militants preying on innocent civilians to kidnap, the waters approaching Panampangan Island is now a picture of unruffled nature haven.
It was way back in the 80?s when I heard about the place, how beautiful it is and why I must visit it. Consistently, this was what my aunt kept telling me whenever we meet. Bongao was home to her as it was one of her longest assignments while connected with Medicins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders).

And I did. It took 30 years before ...
No fear. Thats what can be said of my views on the southwestern Philippines, much more the Sulu island groups. I rarely believe the bad rep these islands get.
These stories are like ancient tales retold and rewoven by people who have not even been there, not seen the real picture and heard only "horror stories" from third party sources. Not only have they failed miserably to update old data on Tawi-Tawi but continue to use these to support biases.
Whats also annoying is the tone of articles about Tawi-Tawi that portray the islands as a lair of bandits and its people as pirates. Some of t ...
Behind the news that often puts Tawi-Tawi in bad light, this southern-most island province of the country deserve more praise than it has gained, and more visitors to leave foot prints on its white sand shores.
The Island of Tawi-Tawi has so much to offer - the beauty of its islands is something we can all be proud of as Filipinos. They are not only comparable to what Coron and Boracay can offer, its comparable to what Maldives and even the Caribbean could offer.
Among these is the Panampangan Island- a 10 hectare uninhabited white-sand beach tagged as a "virgin island."
This island is ...
