    Coron Island.

Limestone and sea exploration DONE!

  • Marine Protected Areas Boost Fish Production In Calamianes

The nine Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Calamianes Group of Islands in Northern Palawan boost the fish stocks in the area demonstrating that partnerships between and among the community, local government units, and national government agencies work.

The MPAs were established through the Fisheries Improved for Sustainable Harvest Project or FISH which was a project of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources funded by the United States Development Fund.

FISH Project in Calamianes Palawan Keeping Focus On Fisheries Management

Perforce, it framed its messages and aligned a few of its strategies with the government's tourism goals, while keeping its focus on its own fisheries management objectives. With perseverance and the emerging t ...

Day 4 - Majika Resort and Coron Village Lodge

This resort grew on me. After the initial discomfort of not having air conditioning, I've come to love this place. I love the sound of tuko waking us up in the middle of the night, and the waves gently lapping on the shore, the trees dancing with the wind. While the hill behind our cottage is barely covered with trees, there are lots of greens around the resort itself. Kasuy trees are all over the place.

There are pineapples behind our cottage. Coconut trees line the shore. And there are hammocks in front of the cottages where one can retreat ...

Delivering a Mandate for a Healthy Sea

Among government officials in Coron town, Palawan in western Philippines, Bintuan village chief Yuri Palanca is one of the better known proponents of marine conservation.

Taking a hands-on approach, Palanca closely administers the management of Bintuan's 65-hectare Decalve Marine Park. He has attended numerous workshops and seminars organized by the USAID FISH Project, which assisted the park. Faced with opposition from certain stakeholders who were unhappy with new restrictions, he convened consultation meetings, joined patrol operations and personally talked to critics to convince them to ...
