Kulturatin Mindanayaw Preludes Kalinaw Kultura Grand Launch

Kulturatin Mindanayaw, blending of the words "Kultura nating mga taga-Mindanao ang Sayaw" muslim communities and IP groups dance contest preluded the Grand Launching of Kalinaw Kultura on July 26, 2018 at Robinsons Place Iligan.

The event had two categories; Dances from Muslim Communites participated by high schools students, and Dances from Indigenous Peoples (IP) groups in Mindanao participated by elementary students in Iligan City.

Iligan City East National High School- Sta. Felomina won the championship for Dances from Muslim Communites presenting its Kapagadir Meranaw Dance; Iligan City National High School's Tausog dance performance won 1st Runner-up; and Suarez National High School as the 2nd Runner-up for its Maranao (Kappa) dance.

For the dances from IP groups, Dalipuga Central School's Subanen dance emerged as the champion; 1st Runner-up was bagged by the Iligan City North Central School's Bagobo dance presentation; and Dona Juana Actub Central School as the 2nd Runner-up representing the dance from the Mandaya Tribe.

The Department of Education-Division of Iligan City has taken the lead in facilitating the event headed by Dr. Robert Dechos, in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Philippine Information Agency, Local Government Unit of Iligan City, and Task Force Bangon Marawi.

This muslim communities and IP groups dance contest has been a good opportunity for everyone to appreciate Mindanao's dances, which consist a big part in defining the diverse cultures in Mindanao. Kulturatin Mindanayaw was only one of the lined-up of activities for Kalinaw Kultura.
