A team from Marco Polo Plaza Cebu recently planted 2,000 mangrove propagules in a coastal area in Barangay Luyang, Carmen town, northern Cebu.

The hotel partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through DENR Carmen Station National Greening Program focal person Melvin Meredores and Forest Extension officer Gladys Flores.

Through them, the hotel was able to determine the best kind of propagules to plant and the best location to plant to ensure survival of mangroves planted.

The team composed of managers and 15 associates from the different departments were taught how to properly plant the propagules and the particular areas in the coastline the propagules should be planted.

"The team strives to contribute to the sustainability and long-term development of our environment for the future generations. One of our core values is corporate citizenship and we are committed to improving our environment," said Marco Polo Plaza general manager Brian Connelly.

The hotel is set to hold regular corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities like feeding programs and other livelihood projects. These will be headed by the hotel's Client, Community and Environment Services Executive, Laedee Gonzales.
