    Oriental Peninsula Citinickel resumes operations at one of its Palawan mines

    Oriental Peninsula Resources Group (ORE) resumed operations at one of its mining areas in Palawan province.

    In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, ORE said the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has removed the suspension on Citinickel Mines and Development Corp's operations in Narra town.

    The agency also allowed Citinickel to resume ore exports from its mine in Sofronio Española.

    The lifting of the suspension came after the company complied with the cleanup and rehabilitation program put in place in the wake of the June 5 tailings spill.

    The spill happened in Citinickel's Pulot mine on June 5 when the miner's siltation control facilities were breached and caused massive discoloration and build up of sediments in the Pasi and Pulot Rivers, the bureau said in a June 10 suspension order.

    THE Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has suspended the operation of Citinickel Mines and Development Corp. (CMDC) following a silt spill at its nickel mine in Sofronio Española, Palawan.

    MGB Director Leo Jasareno said the company's operation is suspended indefinitely until such time that the company successfully conducted mitigation and remediation measures to prevent another silt spill.
