    On a recent trip to Masbate I made a side trip to nearby Ticao Island. I have not heard of Ticao from any of my traveler friends and there lies the allure of discovery. Not many people have gone to Masbate, and definitely even less would have even heard of, much less set foot on Ticao. A short one-hour boat ride took me to this island.Fare: P85

    The boat I took sits 80 passengers cramped in a small space. There were enough life vests though, and this made me feel good somehow.

  • Additional connections boost Laguna Water 2012 earnings

    Laguna Water more than doubled its net income last year on account of a significant increase in water connections in its Sta. Rosa, BiƱan and Cabuyao service areas.

    In a statement Laguna Water said earnings for 2012 reached P56.5 million, a 165 percent increase from P21.3 million in 2011. Revenues also grew by 97 percent as billed volume surged 63 percent.

    The utility attributed the increase to its aggressive commercial accounts acquisition and intensified campaign to expand its customer base in previously unserved areas.

  • Manila Water unit seeks new sources for expansion

    Manila Water subsidiary Laguna Water Corp. will develop new water sources beginning this year as part of its program to expand its coverage in its concession area to 80 percent by 2016.

    The company currently covers 30 percent in its concession area, equivalent to 45,000 individual connections for a population of 900,000.

    By 2020, the subsidiary aims to achieve a 100-percent coverage in its area which is equivalent to roughly 112,000 connections.
