Ormoc Bay is a large bay formed by the island of Leyte in the Philippines. The bay is an extension of the Camotes Sea. The city of Ormoc lies at the head of the bay and exports rice, copra and sugar.

    US Warship Found 650 Feet Deep In Ormoc Bay

    The team of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has found the wreckage of the first American warship that fired against a Japanese vessel during World War II.

    The USS Ward was found 650 feet below the surface of the Ormoc Bay by Allen's research vessel (R/V) Petrel on Dec. 1, according to military publication Stars and Stripes.

    The warship fired the first American shot against the Japanese during the Pearl Harbor attack on Dec. 7, 1941. It sunk on the same day, three years later after a kamikaze attack.

    Migratory Birds Observed In Carigara Ormoc Bay Wetlands

    A census of migratory birds in region 8 was recently conducted by a team from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

    For the year, a team from the DENR Region 8 and CENRO Palo monitored two (2) sites for the presence of migratory birds. These were in Barangays Baruguhay Norte and Canomantang in Carigara, Leyte and Barangays San Juan and Naungan in Ormoc City, Leyte. The team counted a total of 723 heads of migratory birds.

    A total of 723 heads of migratory birds were counted by the DENR in Carigara and Ormoc, both in Leyte province.
