Tinago Falls is a waterfall in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte in the southern Philippine island of Mindanao. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Iligan, a city known as the City of Majestic Waterfalls.
Tinago is a Filipino term meaning "hidden", the falls being hidden in a deep ravine. Trekking to the falls requires approximately 500 descending steps called the winding stairc ...
The falls is high, its very cold waters cascading beautifully into a deep and calm basin-like pool which appears like a blue-colored lagoon. Under the falls is a small cave where people can enter and listen to the rumbling waters.
Legend has it that there once lived an influential and powerful Sultan Agok and his wife. They were appointed by their people as their king and queen. But they became too proud of themselves and became selfish rulers of their kingdom. When the sultan's wife was pregnant, an enchantress, disguised as a beggar, begged for their help but instead they exiled and rejected her. Because of this, the enchantress cursed the couple that the child will become ugly but they did not take it seriously and permanently banished the enchantress.
The child did become ugly. The couple was sad and disappointed, expecting the baby to be as lovely as her mother. They hid the child in a cave to avoid embarrassment and named the baby Tin-ag, which means "hidden face". They visited and took care of the baby in the cave.
When the child grew up, she came out of the cave and became amazed at what she saw. The enchantress, who cursed her parents, saw her and made an offer to transform her into something of great beauty and splendor. She accepted the offer and became the Tinago Falls.

This was the first time my brothers half Filipino Canadian friend Allen visited me in the Philippines! I had never met Allen before, but he decided to come to Cagayan de Oro for a few days. In this video which I shot on my cell phone using the DJI Osmo Mobile 2, you will see us adventure along the coast of Northern Mindanao to beautiful Tinago Falls in Iligan City!
A stop off at some mangrove boardwalks, local hand woven sleeping mats, a boodle-fight and a beautiful waterfall.
Not a bad first experience for this Canadian in Mindanao!

Exactly like how our birthday, it only comes once and so, the New Year. At the time where the spirit of resolutions and new starts are always present. The best way to start out my calendar year is fribbling and commune with natures innate beauty. And hence, I decided to seize the opportunity for an eye opening trip to Misamis Oriental and Lanao Del Norte as my way of welcoming my 2018.
I whisper something to myself the moment I woke up on the 2nd day of 2018. I have made my dream into a reality as I was able to commune with nature yesterday. My Mambuntan Falls experience was brilliant, and experiencing the relaxing fish spa at Ritos Farm was such a memorable way to end my 1st day in 2018. I was woken up from a cold fresh air hugging me tight. I heard the wave kissing the coast, since the house where I stayed was just close to the ocean. I drag myself out of the house and got straight to the public beach. It was serene and beautiful, away from the bustling city.
Tinago Falls in Iligan City was named by international magazine Travel + Leisure as one of the 25 waterfalls to see before you die.
Translated as "hidden falls," Tinago redefines the meaning of "off the beaten path," as one must climb a windy 500-step staircase in order to reach the top of the 240-foot falls, Travel + Leisure said.
Despite 22 others in Iligan, Travel + Leisure said Tinago is the main draw of the "city of majestic waterfalls."
"But the Tinago cascades are what really put the destination on the map," Travel + Leisure said.

Have you been to Iligan City? It is a highly urbanized city in the Northern part of Mindanao, Philippines. It is one of the 10 largest cities in the Philippines in terms of land area. Well, Ive been here last December 2015. The City got my interest because of the numerous waterfalls located within its area. Iligan City is known as the City of Majestic Waterfalls and there are about 24 waterfalls in the city. Two of the most well known falls are the Tinago Falls and Maria Cristina Falls.
Tucked in between Barangay Purakan of the town of Linamon and Barangay Ditucalan of Iligan City is Tinago Falls, Lanao del Norte?s prime icon. Geographically speaking, it is still within the vicinity of Iligan City, home to at least twenty-four waterfalls making the moniker ?City of Majestic Waterfalls? very fitting.
