It is said that in the Spanish Era, some Spanish soldiers came upon a quiet lagoon and wanting to know its name for surveying purposes enquired such from a man husking coconuts by the lakeshore. As is common to many Philippine etymological myths, the man misunderstood the foreign soldiers as asking for the name of the coconut husk, and replied in Tagalog "Bunot." The Spaniards left muttering the word, thinking that it was the name of the lake.

"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be."
It is not my first time to go to San Pablo City. In fact, I participated in a marathon last 2013 and ran for 21KM. I also passed by the city whenever I go with my friend in Liliw, Laguna. But for some reason, I have not visited the 7 lakes. Transitioning from a triathlete to a travel blogger, the 7 Lakes in San Pablo was one of goals to be featured. It is unlikely not common fo ...
I was invited to join an adventure which not carefully thought and planned. It was an out of the box adventure wherein it was discussed few days ago and then last September 30, 2011, we were on the road to San Pablo City. The city is located at the southern portion of Laguna Province.
The specific reason why we were in San Pablo was because of the Seven Lakes. Some people says it is Seven Lakes of Laguna but to be exact it is called as Seven Lakes of San Pablo. All the Seven Lakes are near to each other. Before I came to the city, I had no idea that there is such Seven Lakes until I got a c ...
It might be just a 2- to 2.5-hour drive from home but the city of San Pablo, Laguna has not figured prominently on our travel radar until fairly recently. Despite passing by this city on the way to destinations in Quezon and the Bicol provinces over the years, it was just last year when we really stopped to spend time here. Our main reason? San Pablo's Seven Lakes.
Located in the area between dormant volcanos Mt. Makiling and Mt. Banahaw, these lakes – termed maars by geologists – are low profile craters created by volcanic activity. Water subsequently filled up these craters and create ...
Being a corporate slave, I have been finding it hard to squeeze in some time to write and because of that I'll do some "back logs". =)
At the start of the 2015 I told myself that I will try my best to travel as often as I can and can afford =P
With that, I thought of starting with some off the beaten path places that are very much accessible and affordable. So for my First travel of 2015 , I went to the City of Seven Lakes a.k.a San Pablo, Laguna.
San Pablo, Laguna is around 70 km away from the hustle and bustle of Metro Manila. Took us around 2-2 1/2 hours from our hometown in Pamp ...
I don't think there is a city anywhere in the world that has the advantage of having seven lakes. It may not be as important now, but in the past, the seven lakes offered a place for people to live and for culture to flourish.
San Pablo City in Laguna province has an overabundance of bodies of water – seven of them – which are actually maar craters formed by phreatomagmatic eruptions, when ground water comes in contact with hot magma pushing up near the surface. Its higher elevation on the slopes of Mount Marayap (that stands for 'native lemons grow') and rich soil provided abundant har ...
Phreatomagnetic eruptions in the Laguna Volcanic Field are a double-edged sword to the city of San Pablo. Water coming in contact with hot magma pushing up near the Earth's surface caused eruptions that left in their wake a delightful landscape pocked with seven lakes. These lakes' natural beauty has been written about many times by visitors who are drawn to the freshwater's cool blue or green waters backdropped by Mount Banahaw and Mount Cristobal in the distance.
These scars of destructive events long ago are now quiet pleasures that have continued to be the attractions for a city that is ...
