Developed by the Torre Lorenzo Development Corporation (TLDC), Kopiat Island is a nesting site of the Greenback and Hawksbill turtle species. This 87-hectare island is part of the 6,106-hectare Mabini Protected Landscape.

A week before Compostela Valley opened on May 14 this year's 3rd Summer Beachfest bearing a marine environment theme, 21 Hawksbill turtle hatchlings were rescued from sea predators off Kopiat Island.
