The Municipal Government of Oslob in southern Cebu is set to implement new regulations in order to prevent pollution within the sandbar and dive sites in Sumilon Island.
In a press conference Monday, April 16, Elizabeth Benologa, Oslob tourism officer, said that starting April 17, they will limit tourist visitations within the sandbar area of Sumilon to only 500 tourists per day.
TBenologa told reporters that limiting the number of tourists on the sandbar is aimed at preventing the accumulation of solid waste there.

A popular tourist destination in southern Cebu will be closed for a week.
Sumilon Island, known for its crystal-clear waters and sandbar, will be shut down from April 10 to 16, said Oslob Mayor Jose Tumulak Jr.
Tumulak said the first three days will be for a clean-up drive, and the remaining days will serve as downtime for the island.
"Like humans, nature also needs downtime. It has to rest," said Tumulak.
The 24-hectare Sumilon is located at the southern tip of Oslob town. It can be reached by a 30-minute boat ride from Tanawan, a barangay on mainland Oslob.

So much of what makes Cebu a top destination in the world is its southern part where lies a circus of nature-based entertainment for both tourists and travellers. On the first days of December, I was so excited to know I'd be flying to Dumaguete for work. But then it was added it was the people over at Bluewater Sumilon who invited us. I was like, "Sumilon? Isn't that in Cebu?"
Truth be told, my traveling style involves a jam-packed itinerary and a stout backpack.
