    The establishment of Daan Lungsod-Guiwang (DLG) Marine Sanctuary in 2001 and its management were initially supported by the Coastal Resource Management Project (CRMP), part of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the Coastal Conservation Education Foundation (CCE Foundation) through the Local Governance for Coastal Management Project.

  • 2010 Expedition Report Eastern South Cebu

    The Saving Philippine Reefs Expedition assessed the biophysical conditions of the marine sanctuaries (MPAs) in Southeast Cebu in March 2010. Surveys were conducted in seven out of the twenty one MPAs that are located in the Southeast Cebu cluster and updated the data from previous surveys.

    Living hard coral (LHC) cover ranged from fair to good (29.4±10.9% to 55.0±5.1%).     Twelve coastal municipalities were recognized for good governance in managing and sustaining marine protected areas (MPA) at the start of the 3-day 2nd Conference of Coastal Municipalities of the Philippines last June 28. Chosen from 70 nominees across the country, the 12 municipalities went through a selection process that considered the size of the MPA (minimum of 20 ha), the presence of strong community involvement, effective enforcement, and the degree of cooperation between the local government, volunteers and local community.

  • 2 marine protected areas in Cebu vie for award Cebu

    Two Marine Protected Areas in Cebu are among the finalists in the 12 Most Outstanding MPA Award for 2009, an award given to recognize the efforts of the different coastal municipalities in the country that "practice good governance in managing and sustaining marine protected areas."

    The recognition of the winner will be held on June 28 at the Cebu City Waterfront Hotel during the "2nd Para el Mar" that will be given by the Marine Protected Areas Support Network together with the League of the Municipalities of the Philippines.
