    The Cebu provincial government is gearing towards preserving and promoting the natural wonders of the southern town of Alcoy, particularly its lush forest in Barangay Nug-as.

    Nug-as forest is home to 40 endemic bird species, including the Cebu Black Shama (Copsychus cebuensis) and Cebu Hawk Owls, as well as endemic tree species like Cebu Mistletoe and Cebu Cinnamon.

    Joselito Costas, provincial tourism officer, said the province is doing its best to protect and promote the forest as an eco-tourism site.

    Endemic Fly Bird Spotted In River

    Two endemic species were spotted at the canyoneering river route in the boundary of Alegria and Badian towns, southern Cebu by the assessment team of the Cebu Provincial Tourism Office recently.

    The team was on their way to Barangay Matutinao in Badian with a community guide when they chanced upon a black shama, locally known as "Siloy" and the Cebu frill-wing damselfly, which are both endangered.

    The environment department awarded the scientists who discovered the Cebu Hawk Owl, the third endemic bird species in the province.
