I used to believe that breaking up with someone should be done in person, face to face. But when I asked one of my friends fresh from break-up, after 6 hours of long, arduous trek, 1,006 MASL, in the comforts of our temporary home along the ridge in Tarak, "Paano kayo nag break?" She said "sa text". Had I heard this answer a year ago I would have said that it was a disrespectful way of breaking up. Instead I said "Minsan okey na rin sa text kasi kung personal at magmakaawa sa iyo, baka di mo na matuloy." It was almost dark, and I realized just how much I missed camping, the fresh air, the mis ...
Whoever said Tarak is easy is probably a demigod, with inhuman powers that the rest of the mountaineering world still has to acquire or gradually develop for themselves in order to endure the punishing trail, go on and get back to the human world.
"I want to climb Tarak next." I told a friend.
"No. The mountain is too difficult and risky for beginners, probably especially for girls. Try to do some more minor climbs first." He replied.
This is the conversation I had with a friend seven months ago after my second climb at Mount Daraitan.

I had vacation in my country last October 2010 since at that time I was still employed in Singapore. But to be honest the main reason I came back in my country after around 6 months (I had vacation last May 2010 too) was to sign a job offer for my next job back home. Yes, I returned to my home country to work (other people surprised because there are lots of Filipinos dreamed to work abroad and yet I am returning to my country). And I used the climb event as a reason when I requested for approval of my vacation leave so that I can return to the country without so much effort of reasoning.
When looking for a mountain to explore, the Philippines has many options! Each mountain has different landscape and has it's own character and that is what I came to see when one of my friends invited me to check on Tarak Ridge in Mount Mariveles in Bataan.
With an elevation of 1130+ MASL, Tarak Ridge is considered a notable hiking destination in Bataan and one of the most visited mountains in the Philippines.
The trip would take around 4 hours from Manila to Mariveles, Bataan. Buses are also available to Mariveles which makes it very accessible to all wanting to explore this mountain.
