A total of P4.4 million has been sent by the government of the United States (US) for the assistance of displaced families affected by the Mayon Volcano in Albay.
US Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg said, in a statement, that they want to provide assistance to the more than 12,000 families evacuated ahead of the looming eruption of the volcano.

Environment Secretary Ramon Paje has placed on high alert all forest and fire protection officers in Albay, to the wildfires that Mayon Volcano's eruption could cause.
In a statement, Paje emphasized the serious danger that a volcanic eruption and wildfire would pose to people and natural ecosystems.
According to the DENR secretary, "We have to be ready for potential wildfires, including whatever intervention may be needed to protect natural ecosystems that are highly vulnerable to catastrophic damage the volcanic explosion may cause."

Mayon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 despite lower recordings of volcanic quakes and rockfalls, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said yesterday.
Phivolcs said two volcanic quakes and four rockfall events have been recorded during the past 24 hours.
Under Alert Level 3, magma is at the crater and that hazardous eruption is possible within weeks, Phivolcs said.
