    Cabadbaran Celebrates 120th Dagkot Festival

    This city which is one of the oldest settlements in the province of Agusan del Norte if not in the entire northeastern Mindanao. Cabadbaran celebrated its 120th town fiesta on Tuesday. Founded by groups of settlers who applied for township and approved by the Spanish colonial government in Jan. 31, 1894, Cabadbaran traces its roots back to 1200 AD.

    Its heritage can still be seen today in the 12th century villages along an ancient waterway dissecting the area now called Cabadbaran.

    Dagkot Festival is the sole important event during the fiesta celebration of Cabadbaran City.     Every city has its own patron saint. The city that we visited last month was Cabadbaran City. This city is celebrating Dagkot Festival. "To Light", is the meaning of Dagkot. This festival is for its patron saint, Nuestra Senora de Candilaria.

    This is the first time that I have visited and took part of the celebration. The usual reasons was that because of the fact that its also a fiesta, which means there are a lot of foods for everybody who goes there. I went there with my family, we visited some would-be relatives on my part and of course, before those escapades, we attended the mass.

    I just came from an out of town trip and let me tell you it was awesome! It's really nice to take a break once in a while and spend some time with my Dad and the extended family. I was in Agusan del Norte for 3 days for the yearly Dagkot Festival which involved a lot of street dancing, carnivals and non-stop eating.

    This group from Northern Mindanao Colleges won first place (and a whopping P200,000!) and also joined Showtime a few weeks prior. Congratulations guys!

    Every year, thousands of devout Catholics and tourists visit Cabadbaran City, the capital of Agusan del Norte province in Mindanao, in honor of the feast of Nuestra Señora Candelaria to light their candles and to enjoy the sumptuous meals the locals prepare for their guests.
